FRANKIE’S INN – ITALIAN GOURMET FOOD

Frankie’s is located on Jomtien’s 2nd road. While reviewing the menu in preparation for dinner, I couldn’t help but notice a brightly colored, but separate breakfast menu. I took a look and was pleasantly surprised by the extensive smoothie offerings, “super bowls” fruit and yogurt bowls as well as the normal English breakfast and omelets. VERY reasonably priced. They open at 8 am, I shall return.
Upon reviewing the menu it becomes clear this is not a common Italian restaurant. The pizza offerings are built around crusts with 3 different flours. They offer both traditional and gourmet types cooked a variety of ways. So as appetizers we ordered both a Margherita pizza as well as a gourmet spinach and salmon on the recommendation of our waiter. I will say I was stunned by how good the salmon and spinach pizza was on a thick pan crust.
So now we are always trying to include unique and different vegetarian offerings, and tonight was no exception. We first ordered both a spinach and ricotta ravioli with mushrooms and flavored with pumpkin sauce. Shockingly good, promptly devoured by our meat eaters as well. This led us to the 4 cheese gnocchi, thankfully the waiter suggested a double serving as it is very tasty. So even though there were no bright colors for photos we went ahead. So delicious the double serving was promptly consumed as well. We spoke to the cook about the quality of the ingredients and he was proud of his efforts on a daily basis to seek out quality ingredients. It showed.
Moving on we ordered a salmon on a bed of grilled vegetable with a light cream sauce. Again, we were not disappointed, the salmon was lightly seared and very fresh. For meat dishes we ordered an Australian steak with grilled vegetables, and their Osso Buco served with braised vegetables on a saffron risotto. While the steak was excellent the Osso Buco was amazing. Maybe the best I have ever had.
I want to note, since we are sharing, the dishes get covered with a variety of sauces. Like many fine restaurants they were quick to change out our plates. BUT, whenever a restaurant does this it leaves no place for your cutlery to sit until a new plate is placed. Frankie’s changed out our cutlery at the s same time. A very nice touch!
As you can imagine by this time dessert was mandatory. We discussed the fact that not trying Tiramisu might be illegal in Italy, so that was combined with an order of Pannacotta. Each was enough to be shared 4 ways.
I should point out the dinner menu also offers an extensive offering of Thai dishes as well.
Absolutely fantastic food, somewhere between pleasant comfort food and true gourmet. Highly recommended.
