NEW PATTAYA MAYOR
Khun Sonthaya Khunplome is now the new Mayor of Pattaya. On Monday 1. October many groups and individuals came to Pattaya City Hall to extend well wishes to our new Mayor. Among the groups was the Rotary Club of Pattaya, Pattaya Expats Club, Expat Biz Support and the management team of Pattaya People Media Group. The 4 Deputy Mayors are: Khun Ronnakit Eakasingh, Khun Poramase Ngampichet, Khun Banlue Goonravanit and Khun Pattana Boonsawat.
Sonthaya Kunplome was born 10. December 1963. He is the oldest son of Khun Somchai Khunplomeaka “Kamnan Poh”. From 2001 to 2002, Khun Sonthaya was Minister of Science and Technology, and from 2002 to 2005 Minister of Tourism and Sports under Thaksin Shinawatra. Since 2011, he is the chief adviser and de facto leader of the Phalang Chon Party. Khun Sonthaya is married to Khun Sukumol Kunplome, who was culture minister in Yingluck Shinawatra’s cabinet from 2011 to 2002, when Khun Sonthaya took over this position in November 2012. He was appointed political advisor to Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha in April 2018. Later in September 2018, he was appointed Pattaya Mayor. His yonger brother Khun Wittaya Khunplome is the Head of the Chonburi Provincial Administration and Chairman of Chonburi FC Football Club, His second brother Khun Ittipol Khunplome was the Mayor of Pattaya for two consecutive elected periods, his third brother Khun Narongchai Khunplome is the Mayor of Bangsaen Municipality and the youngest sister Khun Jiraphon Khunplome is President of Bangsaenmahanakorn Property Company and involved in many other family businesses.
