TEQUILA REEF MEXICAN CANTINA

TEQUILA REEF MEXICAN CANTINA
So I was invited to dinner at Tequila Reef. This was good news for me, as I only had ever gone before for SOFT tacos. When I arrived the restaurant was full but fortunately my party was already seated. Needless to say, I immediately ordered a frozen margarita. One cannot help but notice premium tequilas on top shelf. Came with a proper lime garnish. Ordering dinner was going to be a little tricky as one guest was vegan and his wife was craving a big rib eye.
For the reader I am originally from CA, so I know Mexican food.
We started with a 4 item combo appetizer. Basically nachos, taquitos, chicken wings, and quesadillas. Clearly designed for 4 people, but a good way to get started. I was pleasantly surprised by the taquitos, much larger than normal. I ate 2 of the 4 quesadillas but only remember I needed to eat 2, can’t remember what they tasted like. (lol)
For dinner the vegan diner got a mini vegan burrito, and I insisted my vegan friend try a SOFT vegan taco, with rice and beans. We also ordered a rare rib eye steak (I am not shy I taste everyone’s food), and BBQ rib and chicken platter. I added sides of beans rice and tortillas. I eat Mexican like everything is a fajita. That is throw it all in the tortilla.
The meat fell off the ribs, tasty. BBQ chicken was large and moist. Excellent for me. The BBQ platter came with chips, but you can ask to replace with beans and rice. Do that. I mean it is a Mexican place after all. My vegan friend was quite happy with his vegan SOFT taco. His vegan mini burrito came “wet” with sauce. Overall I would call it more CA-Mex than TEXMEX.
So, even with a filling meal, I left with my review of Tequila Reef incomplete. I still NEED to try the huge burritos they make, as well as the fajitas. Some day soon.
