PATTAYA BEACH RECLAMATION

PATTAYA BEACH RECLAMATION
Pattaya Beach is the “Face of Pattaya” and various negatives related to the beach area sometime make us feel that we are “loosing our face”. The beach itself has been shrinking over the years, as about 60 years ago it was about 35 meters deep now only about 5 meters. The nearly 3 kilometers long beach will soon be back its former standard as an extensive beach reclamation is taking place. Pattaya Mayor Anan Charoenchasri informed that the first phase of 400 meters is about to be completed and after that section by section will be done until final completion, but additional sand fill will take place over the next five years aswell. The sand that is used for the reclamation comes from Koh Rang about 10 kilometers south of Koh Larn island. The project was stopped due to complains about the color of the sand used was not matching the original sand color of Pattaya beach, but the matter was resolved with an explanation that the dark sand used would eventually because of the sunlight change color to white sand. So now we all look forward to see a beautiful rejuvenated Pattaya beach and hope that the authorities also will look after the cleanliness on the beach area, especially the promenade between the road and the beach.
