Alan and Mick Win at Dick Warberg’s Birthday Bash!
By the time you read this the British Open Championship will have been decided. Yeah yeah, who cares about that when the events at Tropical Golf transcend that by a long Par-5? Each day is special for the Tropical Golfers, but this one was extra special as it was also Dick Warberg’s 75th Birthday Party! So on with the show!
To celebrate and just plain have fun, everyone participated in a relaxing though unofficial “Rainbow” round that required players to tee off from six each red, white, and yellow tees. There were prizes on each hole! Some calculated a pre-course strategy while most figured it out as they went along. Treasure Hill is a difficult course, and it lived up to that reputation. Extra slow greens befuddled many players, and even with choice of tees there were no blowout scores. Rumors that some groups started the festivities as early as the third hole could not be confirmed.

This day however was special because the real story was not the golf. There are few (if any) more recognized and respected in the Pattaya golfing scene than Dick Warberg. Living and playing golf in Thailand for for fifteen years, and ten of those years have been spent organizing golf and sometime serving on the PSC board, he’s hard to miss if you’ve been a regular golfer for any length of time.
During this time Dick has worked hard to help thousands of golfers enjoy hassle free rounds, taking on more difficult and frustrating tasks than could ever be mentioned. Whatever thanks Dick has received over the years are not enough, yet he somehow continues to keep a ready smile and “all around nice guy” attitude. The party and food at BJ’s Holiday Lodge was splendid, and all enjoyed the evening. So, if you were not able to attend the celebration, send Dick a Happy 75th birthday wish, and also a big thanks for his selfless efforts over so many years.
