KOH LARN GARBAGE PROBLEM
The island of Koh Larn situated only 20 minutes boat ride from Pattaya is faced with a serious waste and garbage problem. Daily the island is visited by about 10,000 tourists. Tourism and the local community is creating about 20 tons od waste every day, there is a garbage dump area but only at the size of 12 rai (approximately 20,000 square meters). The Governor of Chonburi province together with the Banglamung District Officer inspected the island and its garbage problem on 15. March. Now the King Mongkut Univercity of Technology in Bangkok has been commissioned to come up with a plan and solution to this problem, and an incinerator at a cost of 3 million baht could be installed on the island. In the meantime private companies must be contracted to dispose with the thousands of tons of garbage now left on the island.
