NEVER GOING HOME
So last night we had the pleasure of eating at Murphy’s Irish Pub on the dark side. First when you visit be sure to seek out the owner Steve, he is enjoyable company. The facility is quite nice with a deluxe dining area. Clearly a high energy Rugby watching spot. Since San Miguel Light was on draft I decided on it as a pre appetizer.
So jumping right in, I noticed on the board lots of interesting specials. Goulash for 80 baht? Anyway it arrives as a huge portion great value worth visiting just for a quick fill of goulash!
We talked to Steve before ordering for his recommendations. He said he would spilt some items with me, but I had to beat him back over the Hamburger, he really wanted his hamburger.
They have an extensive Thai menu as well so one of our guests ordered Pla Kung. I ate one of the prawns, first time for me, very delicious! I mentally noted they had masaman curry so it is on my list for a revisit.
We shared Nachos between us, clearly not bagged up chips. Great thing was you want more pico de gallo? No problem!
Moving on as a main dish I settle on Guinness Pie. A rare treat for me, full of meat. I opted for red wine.
For our Vegan, spring rolls arrived and he ordered a baked jacket potato. I have never seen one as big or with as much sour cream ever before. It didn’t get finished even though I tried to help. Cooked perfectly!
Now of course I am holding out for deserts, BIG mistake. I am always proudly noting “I ate 5 deserts”. Well that is because they are those little squares they have at buffets and the like, NOT HERE. Clearly desserts are not intended for just one person but I didn’t know that. While we are waiting they served us a little chocolate with a mint leaf. It was so cute. Steve explained it was Irish chocolate, and most people didn’t know the Irish grew chocolate. I think that was BS 555. We ordered brownie cake, carrot cake and a mixed berry crumble. The portions are monstrous. The brownie cake was actually lighter and fluffier than those brick like brownies around town. Very nice but four of us couldn’t finish the portion. It would make a good birthday cake. The carrot cake was a nice change and manageable. The berry crumble with vanilla ice cream did me in and I was done.
So had to have a taste of Irish whiskey as post dessert, after all it is an Irish pub.
