GROWLING SWAN GOLF REPORT

TREASURE HILL – MONDAY 25TH JUNE 2018
LADY LORRAINE SLAY’S LAYMAN!
A full bus and a few cars made their way to the treasure hill golf club for today’s battle and battle is the apt term to be used when taking on this challenging course!
Given that today’s golf game followed the world’s best rugby league clash the night before (State of Origin) with the New South Wales team scraping home to win the series against Queensland, with the aid of a penalty try, it was a surprise that only one golfer was a no show.
Not to mention names but the normally reliable Steve Younger was still sleeping when contacted with 10 minutes to departure time and conveniently blamed visiting former rugby league champions Wally Fullerton – Smith and Greg Conescu and friends for his demise, having chaperoned them until the early hours of the morning.
Most of those who did make the bus were heard moaning and groaning all the way to the golf venue, including today’s winner!
It has been mentioned many times before and deservedly so…. this course offers fantastic value for money with 1,250 baht paying for green fees, very pleasant caddies and cart. The course was in great shape despite a light sanding of the greens which in no way detracted from putting line or length.
Our regular lady player (Lorraine Percy) had no trouble with her chipping and putting and accordingly took out first place with a commendable 37 points, complete with a sore head!
2nd, 3rd and 4th places had to be ascertained by means of a count back.
Martin Kempton with 20 points on the back nine edged out Gordon Clegg with 19 points and Keith (Kissy) Buchanan taking out fourth place, all with 35 points.
This scribe is keen to advise that he pared the 16th par 5 crocodile hole. Whilst this hole is rated as the second or third easiest hole on the course, there are very few players who par it!
Back at the Swan, Peter Grey welcomed everyone, with special welcome backs to Robert Cross and Kissy.
