Citizens detain pickpocket pair
On June 10th, Pattaya Police held a press conference to publicize the arrest of two pickpockets who had robbed a tourist.
The pair, who are identified as Mr. Ronarit Kampror, aged 32, and Mr. Plakad Sonjahn, aged 26, were detained by a group of good natured citizens who saw the crime unfold and kept the culprits at the scene until the police arrived.
The local heroes were led by 51-year old motorcycle taxi driver Mr. Thanapat Wataya, who was honoured and given a reward for his bravery during the press conference.
The suspects, who are ladyboys, had attempted to steal a wallet containing nearly 3,000 Baht from an Australian tourist named as Mr. Robinson, who was also present at the press conference.
Police were keen to show that although Pattaya can be place where criminals operate, it is also a place where good locals protect tourists.
