Guns Drugs and Birthday Parties
Shortly after midnight on the 4th of June, Banglamung District Sheriff Mr. Naris Nilamaiwong, acting in cooperation with Mr. Prapan Prathumchompoo from the Ministry of Security, and the District Attorney Mr. Pichet Thamhone, carried out a raid on the Rosa Resort Sports Lounge Restaurant in Moo 4 of Mabprachan, with the assistance of over 50 armed guards from the Tourist Police and multiple army regiments.
After storming into the open bar, the officials detained a number of individuals including Thai nationals and tourists. After searching another room, British national Mr. Dimon Wait, a 42-year old horse farm owner, was found to be in possession of 20 packs of drugs, including hidden heroin and cannabis paraphernalia.
Mr. Wait confessed that the drugs were his and told police he had acquired them as part of his birthday celebrations.
Further searches of the premises found that a housekeeper of the resort, named as Miss Pailin, was in possession of 5 amphetamine tablets.
Even more remarkably, officials then found a 9mm WW2 era firearm with ammunition, which was not claimed to belong to anyone on the premises.
The people present at the time of the raid were then taken to receive drugs tests, with a further 7 people found to have ingested illegal narcotics. These people, along with Mr. Wait and Miss Pailin, were all taken to Nong Prue Police Station for legal proceedings to be formally started against them.
