Enquiry held into beach rental services on Koh Lan
an enquiry was held at the Banglamung District Office, chaired by Banglamung District Chief, Mr. Naris Niramaiwong, in cooperation with Chief of Banglamung Safety Control Army Team, Sub. Lt. Suwit Laklang.
The enquiry was commissioned after a complaint was received regarding a breach of regulations governing the sale of beach chairs and umbrellas on public beaches.
The complaint, which was sent by an anonymous source, named only as “a good citizen”, involved the business operations of Mr. Pradit Naritpan, who runs a beach chair and umbrella rental service on Koh Lan.
The complaint documented that Mr. Pradit had acted against the relevant regulations by placing his rental beach umbrellas and chairs outside the allocated zone (including on a public footpath), and had conducted his business on Wednesdays which is in violation of the regulations which expressly prohibit rental services operating on that day as it is intended for tourists to enjoy the beaches without the chairs and umbrellas being present.
After hearing the details of the case, including testimony from Mr. Pradit himself, the panel found that there was insufficient evidence to find that he has operated his rental business outside of the terms specified in the relevant regulations, as such the case against Mr. Pradit was formally dropped.
