Taxis Ignore Police Warning
4 drivers charged with threatening behavior
Four taxi drivers who surrounded and threatened an Uber driver have been charged over the incident.
The Uber driver Mr. Surasak Kukam, aged 29, pressed charges against the 4 taxi drivers for the event which occurred on the 17th of May. Mr. Surasak was fined 1,000 Baht at the time for using a vehicle against its registered purpose.
Pattaya Police had previously warned taxi drives about engaging in such threatening behaviour after a string of incidents against suspected Uber drivers.
The Commissioner of the Police Department for Region 2 Pol. Lt. Gen. JittiRodbangyang held a press conference on the 18th of May to reiterate that such use of threatening actions will not be tolerated.
The 4 local taxi men charged have been identified as; Mr. Shalor Poompetch, aged 39, Mr. Supakrit Thongpleum, aged 42, Mr. Pramote Watanasiri, aged 29 and Mr. Krist Saengsuwan, aged 42. All four have been charged with joint detaining of an individual and the use of threats against another following Articles 309 and 310 of the Thai Criminal Code.
The 4 offenders, who have initially denied all the accusations despite being filmed during the altercation, will now face legal prosecution.
