On the evening of the 17th of May, Pol. Lt. Col. Apichai Krobpetch informed taxi drivers not to overcharge tourists for fares after an incident involving 8 Chinese tourists.
The tourists had travelled a distance of 3-4km, for which the taxi driver attempted to charge them 400 Baht. The group were assisted by good matured citizens who attempted to reason with the driver but the driver refused to compromise. Eventually the police were called and helped negotiate a fairer price of 250 Baht.
Pol. Lt. Col. Krobpetch who is the director of Pattaya police has warned drivers against overcharging tourists as it tarnishes Pattaya’s reputation as a tourist destination which will ultimately hurt the local economy as holidaymakers look to travel elsewhere
