Gold Shop Thief Finally Apprehended
Police sting operation catches elusive culprit
On the morning of the 3rd of April, Pattaya police successfully arrested Mr. Chaichan Puslip AKA Tah, aged 25, who was wanted in connection with a theft in a gold shop committed at the end of March 2017.
Pattaya Police Superintendent Pol. Col. Apichai Krobpetch revealed that CCTV footage from the gold shop was used to identify Mr. Chanchai, who had snatched a gold ring and fled the scene whilst the shop owner was distracted.
Police had attempted to execute an arrest warrant for Mr. Chanchai after tracing him to an address in his home town of Nakhon Sawan Province, but Mr. Chanchai evaded police on that occasion.
At this point, police changed their tactics and sent an operative to make contact with Mr. Chanchai, in an effort to convince him that the gold shop would withdraw their complaint if Mr. Chanchai went to the shop and paid for the stolen ring. When Mr. Chanchai arrived at the gold shop he was arrested by an undercover officer posing as a shop employee.
Mr. Chanchai confessed to the theft of the ring as well as a number of other thefts in the past. He claimed that drug addiction was his motivation for the crimes. However, upon further investigation, he was also found to be wanted for other offences in Nakhon Sawan province, including rape, obscenity and 2 counts of drug charges.
